Lakewood Homes for Sale & Real Estate
The most populous municipality in Jefferson County, Lakewood is situated west of Denver, and is an integral part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood metropolitan area. In the watershed of the South Platte River, Lakewood has many gulches and creeks, lakes and reservoirs. In particular, the Soda Lakes and Bear Creek Lake are popular destinations for hiking and swimming. Located directly perpendicular to Denver, Lakewood is an ideal location due to its proximity and ease of access to several RTD light rail and bus stops (1).
Lakewood’s town center is called Belmar, and weaves together a mix of culture and entertainment. With cinemas, restaurants, and shopping, this newly revamped area has been beloved by locals. One particular place of interest is a haven for creatives— it’s called the Laboratory of Art and Ideas at Belmar, and it has since been integrated into the Museum of Contemporary Art (2). The Lakewood Cultural Center has also been a staple for lifelong learners, with auditoriums, community rooms, and galleries always spurring new conversations and idas. Furthermore, Casa Bonita (subject of the famous South Park episode) has been entertaining locals and tourists alike with its cliff divers, caves, and sopapillas since 1974. Delicious restaurants have begun to crop up everywhere in Lakewood, with 240 Union Restaurant serving up fresh seafood, wood-fired pizzas, and unbeatable happy hour drinks. Further, Cafe Jordano’s Italian food can’t be beat, due to its classic red sauce and decadent desserts. Lakewood also has four sister cities, two of which are in the UK, one of which is in Germany, and one that is located in Australia.
Lakewood is a large and populous metro area, but doesn’t have the noise and bustle of the neighboring Denver. As such, there are real estate options for everyone from families, to empty-nesters, to young professionals, and everything in between.
